BALIK UMA

DSCF2987Improving Access to Water

The Sitios Letter V and S4/Bermuda in Compostela, Compostela Valley will finally have safe source of drinking water. After identifying a source of water and computing the distance  here most of the households are concentrated, the people in Letter V and S4/Bermuda did a “bayanihan”, helped the Project Officers of Balik Uma, in carrying the water hoses and other materials. They also assisted in hose-line installation, setting of the intake box, and fitting of the coupling and reducer. The task was completed in 9 days, from September 5 to 13, 2013. Now, about175 households and other 250 individuals have accessed to safe drinking water, relieving women girls and children of the responsibility of fetching water from distant and unsafe sources.

Household in the project sites are starting to see the fruits of their own hard work, the corn and vegetables are growing well. The farmers and their household members are also learning new farming techniques that will maximize the fertility of the soil and prevent erosion.

COMMUNITY EXTENSION

SMSNAI ISEDI attended and witnessed the committee meeting held at the officeof the committee chair on City Housing, Davao City last September 27, 2013. It was discussed and clarified in the meeting -the status of the replacers including the role of the association (SMSNAI) in the identification and consideration of replacers.

August 2013 Report

Community Extension

344Twenty-three (23) practicum-students from Theology 141 class assigned to ISEDI conducted a 2-day community exposure in SMSNAI (Smokey Mountain Scavengers Neighborhood Association Inc.), its adopted community in Tibungco Relocation Area. On the first day ,August 24, the students had storytelling and games to 97 children and on the second day, August 25, they conducted a Forum on Natural Family Planning to 48 men and women with resource speaker,  Mr. Roy Cresencio R. Lina of the Natural Family Planning Center of the Ateneo de Davao University. Apart from the forum, a feeding activity and interaction with the kids were done by the students.

 

Balik Uma Campaign

balikAs Balik Uma Campaign progresses its implementation, updating and monitoring of target and accomplished activities are continuously examined during the whole month of August. In Sitios Bango, Mambosao and Bongkilaton, food subsidy support and farm implements were distributed.

Farmers in Bango and Mambosao were done with the clearing and brushing of 2 hectares each of trial farm ready to be planted.  The seeds will be provided by Masipag soon.

ISFI October 2009 Report

THE SEASON OF GIVING STARTED OCTOBER

film7The 12th Founding Anniversary of the Smokey Mountain Neighborhood Association, Inc. (SMSNAI) was a success! We started by celebrating a mass, proceeded with the Medical Mission, distributed the goods and medicines, had fun with the contest on the cleanest household and block and the parlor games.
