COMMUNITY EXTENSION

3423ISEDI joined the SMSNAI community in celebrating its’ 16th year founding anniversary with fun activities such as dance contest , search for little Ms. SMSNAI 2013 and a contest on “Community Clean up Drive” where residents competed per block in cleaning up their surroundings and decorated them with flowering plants . The contests declared two (2) winners per block and were awarded with prizes in the form of grocery items

This year’s anniversary was participated in by more residents who expressed that they felt more inspired in knowing that they were the ones planning for the activity.

Some of the challenges posed to the project were the infestation of pangyaw, leaf rollers and black bugs affecting about 45 hectares of corn and rice fields in Sitio Side 4/Bermuda, Compostela and the infestation of monkeys in Sitio Letter V, Monkayo.

August 2013 Report

Community Extension

344Twenty-three (23) practicum-students from Theology 141 class assigned to ISEDI conducted a 2-day community exposure in SMSNAI (Smokey Mountain Scavengers Neighborhood Association Inc.), its adopted community in Tibungco Relocation Area. On the first day ,August 24, the students had storytelling and games to 97 children and on the second day, August 25, they conducted a Forum on Natural Family Planning to 48 men and women with resource speaker,  Mr. Roy Cresencio R. Lina of the Natural Family Planning Center of the Ateneo de Davao University. Apart from the forum, a feeding activity and interaction with the kids were done by the students.

 

Balik Uma Campaign

balikAs Balik Uma Campaign progresses its implementation, updating and monitoring of target and accomplished activities are continuously examined during the whole month of August. In Sitios Bango, Mambosao and Bongkilaton, food subsidy support and farm implements were distributed.

Farmers in Bango and Mambosao were done with the clearing and brushing of 2 hectares each of trial farm ready to be planted.  The seeds will be provided by Masipag soon.

Community Extension & Internship

julfront• Three (3) practicum-students from the Mass Communication Division are assigned to ISEDI. They will help produce a video documentation for Balik Uma Campaign Project.

• ISEDI also hosts one (1) AIESEC international student in the person of Ms. Fenzhi Chen from South China Agricultural University. She will make a research on the Chinese People’s situation in Davao.

• ISEDI assisted the Officers of SMSNAI (Smokey Mountain Scavengers Neighborhood Association Inc.), its adopted community in Tibungco Relocation Area in the preparation and submission of Letter-request to the Office of Vice President Binay and DSWD Sec. Soliman to address issues related to their housing program.

Balik Uma Campaign: A Sustainable Agriculture

Production Program and Rainforestation for Food Security & Community Resilience This initiative junsupported by Ateneo de Davao University through UCEAC and implemented by BALSA Mindanao , ISEDI and POs in 5 communities is intended to provide alternative means of livelihood to small scale mining communities in typhoon Pablo affected areas in ComVal Province. It is also intended to achieve food security as an immediate concern and ultimately ensure self-sufficiency in food production; improve the farmers’ knowledge, skills and attitude in adopting improved and appropriate agritechnology; and develop resilience from onslaughts by corporate logging and expanding foreign mineral concessions in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley Province

COMMUNITY EXTENSION

UntitledA coordination meeting with UCEAC Chair Atty. Romeo Cabarde, Jr. and BALSA Representative Ms. May Vargas was held to discuss BALSA’s project proposal entitled “Balik Uma Campaign: A Sustainable Agriculture Production Program and Rain forestation for Food Security & Community Resilience”. The project is meant to provide alternative livelihood to small scale mining communities affected by typhoon Pablo in Barangays Ngan and Mt. Diwata in Compostela and Monkayo respectively. The project will be implemented by BALSA and the POs and co-implemented by ADDU through the ISEDI.

Community Extension Program

AIESEC – Association for the International Exchange of Students in Economics and Commerce

Mar13Mr. Satoshi Yoshinami, an AIESEC intern assigned in ISEDI presented his output on the Study on
Bangsamoro Framework Agreement (BFA) where he shared his understanding on the sections and provisions of BFA in respect to the constitutional law of the Philippines.

He also shared his insights and observations on the socio-economic activities of ISEDI-assisted SMEs and communities – Apo ni Lola and Elmars Pork skin chicharon and SMSNAI Tibungco, respectively.

 

 

PAASCU, ADDU visit

The Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools Colleges and Universities (PAASCU) representatives with the personnel of Ateneo de Davao University and ISEDI visited and interviewed the assisted SME of ISEDI, Apo ni Lola. This is in relation to the PAASCU accreditation of ADDU. The visit took place last March 8, 2013.

mreportMr. Satoshi Yoshinami, an AISEC ( Association for the International Exchange of Students in Economics and Commerce) intern assigned at ISEDI visited two (2) of the assisted enterprises: Apo ni Lola and Elmar’s Porkskin, where he had the chance to observe and interview the entrepreneurs on the services provided by ISEDI.

He also participated in  the Three (3) day Basic Business Skills Training – Batch 2  for JICA  assisted Capacity Building for Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA)conducted by ISEDI last February 27 to March 01, 2013 at El Bajada, Davao City Hotel.

Six (6) Political Science students did their practicum in ISEDI areas. The students underwent orientation on the nature of work and projects implemented by ISEDI and meetings pertaining to their expected outputs.
